Vol. 125 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Postal Delivery.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the great inconvenience caused to residents of the townland of Ballydrehid, Cahir, County Tipperary, by reason of the failure of his Department to provide a daily delivery of letters and if he is now prepared to provide this facility.

I will have the question of providing a daily postal delivery to all of the townland of Ballydrehid examined when the general reorganisation of the postal services in the Cahir district is undertaken. In this connection, I would refer the Deputy to the statement made here on the 22nd February last on the subject of the reorganisation of the mail services generally.

Is the Minister aware that the local postman, who covers the adjoining townland, could, without extra cost, deliver letters in this area in possibly half an hour each day?

I am informed that it is not possible to do anything in this direction until the whole position is examined, when the general reorganisation of the postal services in the Cahir district is undertaken. This will be undertaken as soon as possible.

My influence with the Minister seems to have waned since Baltinglass.

When I inform the Deputy that one-fifth of the country has been covered in a period of five years in the matter of a general daily delivery, he will have some idea of the huge nature of the task.
