Vol. 125 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Chocolate Crumb Production.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) how many tons of chocolate crumb were exported from the Republic in the years 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, and (b) how many tons gross were produced in the Republic during the same periods.

The quantity of chocolate crumb exported was 4,179 tons in the year 1947; 10,541 tons in 1948; 13,229 tons in 1949, and 19,691 tons in 1950. Production as defined for the purposes of the census of industrial production does not include chocolate crumb which is further processed into chocolate confectionery by the producing firm. Accordingly, production as defined is practically equivalent to exports, except for changes in stock between the beginning and the end of the year, which, in the case of this product, were not significant in the years in question.
