Vol. 125 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Generating Station.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether it is proposed to construct an electric generating station at Coole, Ferbane; and, if so, whether the work will be commenced at an early date so as to provide employment locally.

The erection of a turf-fired generating station at or near Ferbane village, Offaly, is part of the board's present generating plant programme. I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the exact site of the station has not yet been determined, but it is under discussion between the board and Bord na Móna.

Would the Minister undertake to have those discussions expedited as quickly as possible so that a decision may be reached, and so that work on the project may commence?

There is no necessity to expedite the discussions because they are going on.
