Vol. 125 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Steamrolling of Mayo Road.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, in view of the intense commercial development of the fishery industry, particularly the shark-fishing industry, at Purteen Harbour, Achill Island, he is prepared to make a special grant to have the road to Purteen pier steamrolled.

The grants from the Road Fund for road works in Mayo County in the current year have already been notified to the Mayo County Council. It is primarily for the county council to decide on the road works to be carried out with the aid of these grants, but I understand they have decided not to include the improvement of this road in their programme. I am not in a position to allocate any further grant from the Road Fund to the county council this year.
