Vol. 126 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Insurance Dispute.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the present dispute in the insurance industry in Cork; and, if so, whether he will take such steps as are necessary to bring about an early and satisfactory solution to the dispute.

This dispute was investigated by the Labour Court on the 16th June, 1951, and the recommendation of the court will be made known in due course.

Mr. Byrne

Having regard to the fact that the Government itself is a large shareholder in the insurance industry, will the Minister take steps to ensure that the present dispute is brought to an end at a very early date?

I hope the recommendation of the Labour Court will have that effect.

Mr. Byrne

If it does not have that effect, will the Government stand by and allow the dispute to continue and spread?

We will look on the bright side of things for the moment.
