Vol. 126 No. 2

Committee on Finance. - Finance Bill, 1951—First Stage.

I move for leave to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to charge and impose certain duties of customs and inland revenue (including excise), to amend the law relating to customs and inland revenue (including excise) and to make further provisions in connection with finance.

Leave granted.

When is it proposed to take the Second Stage?

This day week.

When will the Bill be circulated?

We hope before the end of the week. Subject to that, I would ask the House to give the Second Reading on this day week.

If it is only posted on Saturday it will not give much time to country Deputies sitting on this side of the House. We are quite willing to have the Second Stage taken this day week, the only point being that we would like to see it circulated a bit earlier than promised.

We shall do our best. If it is not out at the end of the week, perhaps the Whips might consider the matter.

Order it for to-morrow week.

Let it stand for this day week.

If we do not have it in time, it might be a matter for discussion between the Whips as to when we shall take it.

Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 27th June, 1951.
