Vol. 126 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oireachtas Restaurant.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the cost of the facilities given to the catering contractor in control of the Oireachtas Restaurant, as to (a) annual subsidy (if any); (b) electric light and power, fuel, provision of utensils, etc.

The payments to the caterers by way of subsidy under the agreement between the Ceann Comhairle and themselves are shown in the annual Appropriation Accounts to 1949-50, inclusive (sub-head J of the Vote for the Houses of the Oireachtas). The figure for 1950-51 is £44.

As regards the second part of the question, no rent is charged for the accommodation provided or for ordinary cleaning, and the cost of lighting and heating is borne on State funds. In addition, the caterers have the free use of the furniture and fittings, table ware, linen, utensils, etc., but are responsible for breakages and replacements, subject to an allowance for fair wear and tear.

The average cost of electricity over the past three years paid for out of State funds was about £390 a year.
