Vol. 126 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Position of Bus Drivers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he proposes to initiate discussions to end the peculiar situation which Córas Iompair Éireann is enduring arising from the continued leave of absence with full pay accorded to two bus drivers over whose employment in Córas Iompair Éireann a costly strike arose in February, 1950, and if he will state the amounts paid to date to each of the men on such leave and any perquisites and whether it is a fact that such payments are equal to payment of full wages without any work in return.

I have had inquiries made from Córas Iompair Éireann in this matter. I find that the two bus drivers concerned have been on leave with full pay since 25th March, 1950. The total amount involved to date is approximately £797. Córas Iompair Éireann are having further discussions on the matter and when I am informed as to the outcome I will, if necessary, consider whether there is any course open to me which might contribute towards a solution of the present unsatisfactory state of affairs.
