Vol. 126 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Train Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether in view of certain uneasiness in the area he will give an assurance that the Skibbereen-Baltimore train service will not be closed down.

The Minister for Industry and Commerce has now no statutory function in this matter. The position is that before services could be discontinued on any branch line Córas Iompair Éireann would have to obtain an Order from the Transport Tribunal in accordance with the provisions of the Transport Act, 1950. Notice of any application is required to be published and such objections as may be made by interested parties must be considered. No proposals for the closing of this or any other branch line have been submitted under the Act by Córas Iompair Éireann.
