Vol. 126 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Kerry Heifers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he intends to extend the scheme for supplying Kerry heifers at present operating in West Donegal and Connemara.

Mr. Walsh

The scheme which was devised by my predecessor, the Deputy, is an experimental one and is confined to three selected areas in West Donegal, viz: Carrick, Aranmore and Gweedore. It is not in operation in Connemara. If the experiment proves a success in West Donegal, consideration will be given to extending it to other areas.

Would the Minister consider extending the experiment in West Donegal?

Mr. Walsh

We have to see if it is a success before we extend it any further.

The Minister will appreciate that continuity of the supply of these heifers is essential to make a success of the scheme.
