Vol. 126 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bog Development Grant.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will make available a bog development grant for the construction of a road and the sinking of a drain at Ballylin bog, Ferbane, County Offaly.

The proposal to which the Deputy refers is, presumably, the making of a link to connect two existing roads in Ballylin bog. As these existing roads serve all the banks which are being cut this season, and as they are at present in a fair state of repair, I do not see any necessity to make a grant to complete the link road.

The drain referred to in the question has as its outfall a drain maintainable by the Offaly County Council and could not be improved unless the latter was first deepened. My office will approach the county council in the matter.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say who advised him or his Department that the road is in a fair state of repair?

I am sure that I am being advised by the same people who advised my predecessor in these matters.
