Vol. 126 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Infectious Diseases Maintenance Regulations.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that, on the 15th March, 1951, the Kildare County Council requested his Department to sanction under the Infectious Diseases (Maintenance) Regulations that the Army pension payable to a patient should not be taken into account; and, if so, if he will state whether sanction has yet been given in this case, and, if so, on what date.

The answer to the first part of the question is "yes". The county council were informed on the 3rd instant that if the circumstances of this man's case are as stated by him then his Army pension need not be taken into account in calculating the maintenance allowance payable to him.

It has been suggested to the council that the adjusted allowance might' be paid as from the date of the patient's appeal to the council provided he was otherwise eligible as from that date.

Did the Minister say the 3rd instant, yesterday?

It is wonderful what the effect of a question is.

It is a great instrument of human liberty.
