Vol. 126 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Postal Voters.

asked the Minister for Defence why ballot papers for postal voting were not sent by his record section at the recent election to four members of the Defence Forces stationed at Curragh Camp.

When completing Form E.A.5, that is, Statement of Member of the Defence Forces of Ireland under Section 1 (7) of the Electoral Act, 1923, certain members of the Defence Forces opted to vote in person in the Constituency of Kildare. Accordingly, their names are not on the Postal Voters' List and ballot papers were not received from the returning officer for issue to them.

The members to whom the Deputy refers may possibly be included in that group.

Is it not possible to ascertain with certainty?

If the Deputy can give me the names of the individuals, it would be easy.

The names of the individuals concerned were furnished to the office. I understand it is not usual to put them on the Order Paper.

The Deputy knows that they are excluded from the Order Paper.

I understood that the names would be furnished to the Minister's Department.

And they have been furnished to the Minister's Department?

Yes, but they have been excluded from the printed question.

Will the Minister advise me by letter?

I will advise the Deputy by any means that are available.
