Vol. 126 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Council Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if final grants in respect of schemes under the Local Authorities (Works) Act have been notified to all county councils; and, if so, whether he will state the amount notified to each county council.

Final allocations under the Local Authorities (Works) Act have not yet been notified to county councils.

I presume they will be notified in the next few weeks?

I cannot assure the Deputy of that fact. There are a number of county councils to which special consideration must be given if final allocations to all councils cannot be announced.

Apropos of the Minister's remarks on the Estimate for the Department of Local Government, is the Minister prepared to say that the reason why the over-all figure was somewhat less than that of last year was due to the fact that certain councils who would this year be engaged in turf production, could not spend the amount such as was given last year? I refer to counties like Kildare and, possibly, Clare.

I have no objection to the Deputy getting in his particular slant on that matter, but I do not think it arises within the question I have been asked.

I want to correct an innuendo the Minister made last week.
