asked the Minister for Finance if he will take steps to ensure that the increase of half a crown a week to old age pensioners will not deprive sons or daughters of the benefit of the income-tax allowance in respect of a dependent relative when the income of the dependent relative does not exceed £50 per year in view of the fact that old age pensioners will now have £52 per year.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income-Tax Allowance.
The issue which the Deputy has in mind does not immediately arise and is unlikely to affect the current income-tax year, more than a quarter of which has already passed. The Deputy may rest assured, however, that the matter is not escaping consideration.
Will the Minister give the matter consideration so as to protect the payers of the tax this coming year and to ensure that the 2/6 increase will not be taken from the relative?
I cannot give that undertaking except to say that the matter will, I trust, be considered in connection with next year's Budget.
