Vol. 126 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will request the Land Commission to consider the advisability of acquiring the bog owned by Mr. Thomas O'Neill, Abbert demesne, Ballyglinn, County Galway (Blakeney estate), in view of the fact that 36 tenants of turbary plots on this bog have been deprived of bog plots this year after 40 years' turbary accommodation thereon.

The Land Commission are having inquiries made with a view to the acquisition of the bog in question.

asked the Minister for Lands to state if and when the commissioners received an application from or on behalf of 92 families residing in the area of Shinrone, County Offaly, requesting them to acquire and divide the Ballincor bog, and if he will now state what action or decision, if any, has been taken in the matter.

Representations were made in May, 1950, on behalf of 89 persons anxious to obtain allotments of turbary on the Ballincor bog. Inquiries are being made with a view to the acquisition of the bog and a decision will be taken in due course.

What is the meaning of "in due course"?

The matter is at present the subject of examination by the inspector and as soon as we receive his report we will try to hurry the matter up.

Is the Minister aware that the Offaly County Council cut across the Land Commission in their activities in this matter?

I am not aware. If the Deputy will let me know the position I will inquire into it.
