Vol. 126 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that, owing to the increased cost of labour and building materials, the present reconstruction grants for the improvement of dwelling-houses are totally inadequate; and, if so, whether he will advance these grants to such an extent as will enable householders to carry out satisfactorily the improvements they may desire.

The grants at present available for the erection, purchase or reconstruction of houses relate to the period ended 31st March, 1952, and legislation will be necessary before that date to provide for grants for private enterprise housing after that date. The question of reconstruction grants will therefore come up for consideration by the Government and the Dáil in the course of the present financial year.
