Vol. 126 No. 10

Committee on Finance. - Freshwater Fisheries (Prohibition of Netting) Bill, 1951—Committee and Final Stages.

Section 1 agreed to.
SECTION 2.

Perhaps the Parliamentary Secretary could tell us whether he has found it possible and desirable to insert 1953 instead of 1952?

There has been a compromise here. We are going half way. Up to the 1st July, 1952, has been allowed, which gives an extension of six months. Fishery owners have had notice since the 1st January, 1948, as to what was proposed and the fishery advisers feel that this further extension of six months should meet all requirements in the matter.

Have six months been added to what is in the Bill?

How is that being done?

The amendment is down for to-day.

The amendment is on the Order Paper.

In sub-section (4), line 29, to delete "January" and substitute "July".
