Vol. 126 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New County Cork Hospital.

asked the Minister for Health whether, in view of the very unsatisfactory position regarding hospital accommodation for mentally defective children, he will state the present position in connection with the proposal to erect new hospital buildings under the care of the Brothers of Charity at Lota, Glanmire, County Cork.

The authorities of the Hospital of Our Lady of Good Counsel at Lota, Glanmire, County Cork, were informed on the 3rd November, 1950, that a grant from the Hospitals Trust Fund would be made available towards the cost of providing 180 additional beds at the hospital and they were further informed that they might proceed with the provision of the extension without further reference of documents to my Department.

I understand that working drawings for the site works are partly completed and that it is hoped that the works will commence towards the end of this year.

In view of the fact that the working drawings are being prepared, would it be right to say that when they are submitted for final inspection to the Department they will be expedited as soon as possible?

There will be no delay as far as we are concerned.
