Vol. 126 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Land Commission erected and sank a pump in 1946 at Ballybeg farm on Mullreaney estate, Croghan, County Offaly, for five tenants and that this pump has never supplied water since its erection, and is being paid for by the tenants, and if he will have immediate action taken with a view to providing the tenants with a proper water supply.

The pump in question was erected in 1944. It was then working satisfactorily and the benefiting tenants undertook the future maintenance of it. The Land Commission have no liability for the upkeep of the pump and it is a matter for the tenants themselves to carry out any repairs that may be necessary.

Is the position that the Minister is mixing this up with another pump which was erected in 1944 in the area? This pump is at Ballybeg farm on Mullreaney estate, Croghan. I doubt if the Minister is referring to the same pump in his reply.

This is a pump on the resumed holding of Mullreaney.

The Minister may have fallen between pumps.
