Vol. 127 No. 1

Questions— Written Answers. - County Mayo Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the lands of Enniscoe (Pratt estate), Crossmolina, County Mayo, with a view to its acquisition and division amongst the uneconomic landholders of the district; and, if so, with what result and, further, whether he is aware that the present owner of this estate has offered it to the Land Commission.

Proceedings were instituted some years ago for the acquisition of these lands. The owner objected to acquisition and his objection was allowed. The lands have not been offered to the Land Commission.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of the Henegan estate (Record No. S.9830), Knockaleanore and Ballygarry, County Mayo, the date of (a) the decision to acquire it; (b) the offer of price; (c) the final fixation of price, and the date fixed for taking possession.

It was decided to acquire this estate in May, 1949, and the necessary statutory notices were subsequently published. The owner objected to acquisition and his objection was disallowed in May, 1950, after a public hearing in the court. An offer of price made in July, 1950, was refused and a statutory notice fixing the price, subject to appeal to the Appeal Tribunal, was published. The owner then reopened negotiations as to price and agreement was eventually reached in May last. No date has been fixed for possession.
