Vol. 127 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Anglo-Egyptian Dispute.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he will take steps to obtain from the Egyptian Government a complete statement of the Egyptian Government's case in its present dispute with the British Government and to make copies of the Egyptian Government's case available in the Library of the Oireachtas for the information of Deputies and Senators.

Our newspapers have published the various statements made by the Egyptian Government regarding their dispute with the British Government. As I do not see how we could effectively intervene to settle the dispute, I feel it would be unwise to take such an initiative as the Deputy suggests in his question.

Does the Minister not consider that, for the information of members of the Oireachtas, it would be useful if we had a statement of Egypt's case in the matter? It should be easy to obtain from the Egyptian Embassy in London.

The information has been published in the newspapers.
