Vol. 127 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Strength in Chapelizod (County Dublin).

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of inhabitants in the Chapelizod police area as compared with 1940, and if, in view of the fact that the number of inhabitants in the area has increased considerably, he will request the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána to provide extra Gardaí at this station to ensure that the district can be patrolled regularly before and after 10 p.m.

Mr. Boland

The population of the Chapelizod police area as shown by the 1951 census is 16,987 as compared with a population of 3,444 in 1941. The strength of the station party was increased in 1946 and again this year. No further increase can at present be made, but the position will be reconsidered when additional Gardaí become available.

Meanwhile, extra supervision is being provided by a patrol car, which operates daily throughout the area, and by special night patrols.

The remaining questions will appear on the Order Paper to-morrow.

Will they have priority over the questions already down for to-morrow?

The decks will be cleared to-morrow.
