Vol. 127 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Petrol Pumps.

andKyne asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that petrol companies refuse to supply intending new customers, living in areas far removed from present available supplies, with petrol pumps and supplies; and, if so, whether he is prepared to allow this practice of trade discrimination to continue, in view of the fact that those petrol companies hold adequate stocks at present.

I am aware that in a number of cases petrol companies have refused to supply prospective customers with petrol pumps and with petrol for resale. I would refer the Deputies to the indication I gave in reply to a question on this subject in Dáil Éireann on 31st October, that I hope shortly to be in a position to introduce legislative proposals in regard to restrictive trade practices.

Considering the blunt refusal by these companies to give supplies to areas far removed from existing pumps, and, further, in view of the Minister's reply to a question last week that there are ample supplies available, can we take it that the Minister will do all he possibly can to have this Bill introduced at the earliest possible date?

Yes. The Bill is being drafted.
