Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seed Oats and Potatoes for Donegal.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will make available to the congested districts of Rosses, Gweedore and Cloughaneely the same quantities of seed oats and potatoes for the spring of 1952 as were made available in the spring of 1951.

I take it that the Deputy refers to the seed distribution scheme for congested areas. This scheme will again be operated next spring and, if supplies permit, substantial quantities of seed oats and seed potatoes will be distributed to smallholders in the areas mentioned. It is too early yet to say precisely what quantities of seed will be distributed.

Though it does not arise directly out of the question, will the Minister take steps to ensure that there will not be the same delay as there was in former years in the distribution of this seed?

Is the Minister aware that each year there is hardly a sufficient quantity made available and that numbers of small farmers are unable to obtain any?

Difficulties of that kind often arise, but all one can do is one's best.

Why not make an attempt to increase the quantity?
