Vol. 127 No. 7

Private Notice Question. - Aid for Italian Flood Victims.

I have given private notice to the Taoiseach to ask him if, in view of the appeal made by His Holiness the Pope, arising out of flood havoc, widespread distress and loss of life and property in Italy, he will state what steps have been taken, or are proposed to be taken immediately, by the Government in the matter.

This question falls within my Department. It has been transferred to me in the usual way and I require the usual notice.

Then no action is being taken?

I hope that when action is taken, the Deputy will not take up the same attitude or express the same point of view as he did when he said in relation to the £3,000,000 for European Relief that it was "an insane, an unsound and a bad policy and merely fishing for cheap publicity."

Let us deal with to-day.
