Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Security Scheme.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will indicate the date on which he proposes to implement the social security scheme as outlined by him on the Second Reading of the Social Welfare (Insurance) (No. 2) Bill, 1951, and published in full in a morning newspaper of 3rd March, 1951.

I am not yet in a position to name a precise date. All I can say at the moment is that legislative proposals on the matters referred to in the Deputy's question will be laid before the House as soon as possible.

Did the Minister not give some assurance that it would happen this year?

I gave an assurance that legislation would be introduced.
