Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curragh Camp Married Quarters.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he proposes to erect or purchase new houses or other buildings for use as married quarters for Army personnel stationed at the Curragh Camp, County Kildare.

Proposals to purchase houses or other buildings for use as married quarters for Army personnel stationed at the Curragh Training Camp are not at present under consideration but the question of erecting quarters for such personnel at the larger military centres, including the Curragh, is receiving constant attention and every effort is being made to solve the problem.

Is the Minister aware that he has already informed me that there are 800 married personnel at the Curragh; that only 430 of that 800 are housed in Defence houses or quarters; how does the Minister expect the remaining 370, quite apart from any new drafts that may be brought in under any recruiting scheme, to be housed in the vicinity?

I am only too well aware of that, but steps are being taken to do all that is possible. A board of officers is sitting to consider the question.

Will the Minister let the House or me know when the steps are decided?

May I remind Deputies that there are 63 questions still to be answered? They ought to keep that in mind in respect of supplementary questions.
