Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Scheme.

Mr. O'Higgins

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the urgent need for a housing scheme in Ballyroan, County Laoighis; and, if so, if he will state when work on the erection of houses is likely to commence.

I have no information as to the housing needs of Ballyroan but I am informed by the Laoighis County Council that no applications were received from that area in response to a recent advertisement published by the council inviting applications from persons requiring housing accommodation. I also understand that the council propose to carry out a survey of the housing needs of the district and to take the necessary steps to provide houses if the survey indicates that houses are needed.

In view of the fact that the Minister is visiting Laoighis next Monday without any invitation from the council—he is pushing himself on the council—would he undertake to make some inquiries into this matter? He has not been invited by the council. He is pushing himself.

I understand the Deputy is a member of the council and I am sure that it is part of his responsibility to see that a district like this will be provided for should the need arise.

Mr. O'Higgins

That will not do from the Minister for Local Government.
