Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Subsidy Houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is satisfied that a local authority may, within the regulations, allot a subsidy house to an applicant when the officers of such local authority have not been able to inspect the premises in which such applicant is residing.

The statutory regulations governing the letting of houses provided by housing authorities require that a housing authority, in the letting of houses, shall have regard, inter alia, to the housing conditions of all the applicants. Under Article 12 of the Housing (Management and Letting) Regulations, 1950, the housing authority is required to obtain and have regard to a report and recommendation from the chief medical officer as to the housing conditions of all applicants. I presume that the Deputy's question refers to the Army classes mentioned in his question of the 8th November, 1951. I understand that the Defence authorities have given permission to the housing authority to carry out inspection in these cases.
