Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postal Voting.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes having facilities made available in the State, on the occasion of Dáil elections, for voters who are ill, or otherwise precluded from attending the polling booths, for registering their preferences by post.

The granting of such facilities would require amending legislation, which is not at present contemplated.

Would the Minister not consider it desirable to introduce amending legislation to enable voters who have to remain at home to vote on the day of election?

I have replied that amending legislation is not contemplated. Therefore, that implies that I do not think it desirable.

Would the Minister not consider it?

When you have to consider something and you have considered it sufficiently long as I have, you have to reach a decision. I have reached mine.

Breanndán Mac Fheórais rose.

Question No. 78.
