Vol. 127 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Onion Crop (County Kerry).

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that onion producers at Maharees, Castlegregory, County Kerry, are finding it impossible to dispose of their onion crop, and whether, in the circumstances, he will take immediate steps to find a market for the West Kerry onion crop by arranging to stop the release of foreign onions until the native crop has been disposed of.

The importation of foreign onions has been prohibited since 25th August last; and it is not my intention to allow further imports until home growers shall have had a reasonable opportunity of disposing of their crop. I have no power to interfere with the disposal of foreign onions already in this country.
