Vol. 128 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transmitter Licences.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his Department is prepared to issue transmitter licences to suitable and qualified persons, and, if so, what conditions must be fulfilled; and if he will indicate why Mr. Connolly of Skibbereen was refused such a licence.

The Department issues licences to suitably qualified persons for the purposes of conducting experiments in wireless telegraphy. Applicants are required to have suitable technical qualifications, including a certain standard in morse sending and receiving. The conditions are laid down in statutory regulations, the reference numbers of which will be supplied to the Deputy if he needs them. Mr. Connolly was refused an experimenter's licence because he failed to reach the required standard in the technical tests, including the morse tests.
