Vol. 128 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cow-Testing.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has now considered the position of the cow-testing supervisors, and if he will say what steps the Department intend to take to improve their working conditions and salaries.

The position of cow-testing supervisors is bound up with the whole question of cow-testing, which never appears to have been taken to kindly by the milk producers all over the country. Suggestions for expanding cow-testing and improving the position of cow-testers have been made to the dairying industry, but were very poorly received. Unless the co-operative societies and dairy farmers take a greater interest in the extension of cow-testing, I cannot see how the claims of the supervisors can be considered.

The Minister's reply is exactly the same as the answer given by Deputy Dillon when he was Minister for Agriculture.

I would not like to think it was.

But all the same it is: is that the answer?

I am not even accepting that it is.

Deputy Lehane thinks it is.

I do not accept that it is.
