Vol. 128 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Flax Acreage.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the acreage of flax grown in West Cork during each of the years 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1950, and the money realised each year for the crop.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving certain relevant information on the subject. Estimates of the value of the flax crop are available only for Ireland (exclusive of the Six Counties) as a whole.

Following is the statement:—

ACREAGES of flax grown (a) in the former West Riding of County Cork and (b) in Ireland and the estimated value to growers of the total output of flax and tow in Ireland in the years 1945 to 1950.
