Vol. 128 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport for Schoolchildren.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the children of Glenoe, Pallas districts, Listowel, County Kerry, have to walk several miles to school; and, if so, if he will now arrange to provide transport to convey them to and from school.

Representations have been made for the provision of suitable educational facilities for the school-going children residing in Glenoe, Pallas, and other districts in the parish of Lixnaw, County Kerry. The matter is at present being investigated by my Department but I am not yet in a position to give a decision in the case.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the hardships caused to the schoolchildren of Sheeaun, Burren, Castlebar, due to no transport being provided for children, who have to walk as far as five miles to school; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

I am aware that there is no school in the Sheeaun district, and I am prepared to have the question of the provision of a transport service to convey the children to school investigated on receipt of an application for such from local interested parties.
