asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the very serious condition existing in the village of Bangor Erris, County Mayo, where a sewerage scheme was partially carried out and portion of it was not completed with the result that it is a menace to the health of the people in the locality; and if he will take steps to see that the work is completed.

I am not aware of the position as stated by the Deputy. In 1945 Mayo County Council submitted an outline report, together with plans, for a sewerage scheme to replace the existing scheme at Bangor Erris. The existing scheme was stated to consist of masonry sewers carrying sewage and surface water and discharging directly into a river. The proposed scheme was placed by the County Medical Officer of Health as No. 21 in order of urgency on a list of proposed new sewerage schemes and improvements and extensions to existing schemes in the county. These schemes are being proceeded with in the arranged order of their urgency and the proposed scheme for Bangor Erris is No. 6 on the council's most recent priority list of new sewerage schemes.
