Vol. 129 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Proposed Rayon Factory.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will consider the advisability of setting up the proposed rayon factory outside the Dublin area preferably in South Leinster or the Gaeltacht areas to prevent emigration and to push ahead the policy of decentralising our industries so necessary to the nation's balanced economy.

The rayon factory to which I presume that the Deputy's question refers is being established by private enterprise and in conformity with the Control of Manufactures Acts, 1932 and 1934. In the circumstances, I have no power to decide its location. I understand, however, that it is the intention of the proprietors to locate it outside the Dublin City area.

The Government's policy of decentralisation and the advantages to be gained from a provincial location were pressed upon the promoters of the undertaking.
