Vol. 129 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fishermen's Losses.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will consider making good the losses of gear, boats and other equipment in recent storms by the fishermen in the Gaeltacht, and especially in Dingle Harbour and surrounding area, where the men concerned lost all means of livelihood.

Mr. Walsh

There are no funds at my disposal which could be used to make good the regrettable losses referred to by the Deputy. I understand that the Sea Fisheries Association is taking special steps to have the vessels which were damaged at Dingle repaired as quickly as possible on the usual repayment terms. While complete information is not yet available, it is hoped that none of the vessels at Dingle was damaged beyond repair.
