Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Division.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made by the Land Commission with a view to the division of White's estate at Ballywater and Ballinoulart, County Wexford, in view of the fact that the owner resides in America and that there are many deserving local applicants.

This estate has been inspected but further inquiries must be made before a decision can be taken as to acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the arable land on the estate of Ryan, Thomastown (Rath), County Offaly, for the relief of congestion and the remainder for afforestation purposes or whether any offer has yet been made for the purchase of this estate.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of these lands but they are having inquiries made.

Is the Minister aware that the lands referred to are on the market for sale by private treaty and that offers have been made by several people including some non-nationals? In view of the fact that some men have been dismissed by the present legal owner will he expedite the Land Commission proceedings or use his influence for that purpose?

I hope to have a reply in the near future.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will indicate how many acres of land in South Tipperary are ready for division and the names of the estates on which the land is available.

In South Tipperary 385 acres have already been allotted this year and schemes for the allotment of a further area of 546 acres have been approved. It would be undesirable and contrary to practice to indicate the location of the lands comprised in the latter area.
