Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage to Embankments.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the serious destruction to the Maine embankments caused by the storm and flooding at the end of December, 1951, and, if so, whether provision is being made by which the breaches will be repaired with all possible speed and to the satisfaction of the tenants concerned.

Representations have been made to the Land Commission regarding flooding as a result of damage to river and sea embankments in County Kerry during the recent storms. Inquiries are being made to ascertain the extent of the damage and the degree of Land Commission liability for the repair of the embankments. Decisions will be taken as soon as the inquiries have been completed. Estimates to hand in some cases indicate that the cost of repairs would be in the region of £10,000, but in most of the cases the Land Commission have no liability.
