Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation Statistics.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total acreage of timber (a) planted by the Forestry Division in the years ended 31st March, 1950 and 1951, and (b) expected to have been planted by 31st March, 1952.

The areas planted by the Forestry Division during the years ended 31st March, 1950 and 1951, were 7,380 acres and 9,369 acres respectively. Allowing for an expected planting programme this year of 14,600 acres, the total area which will have been planted by 31st March, 1952, is 155,000 acres approximately. The Deputy will appreciate that weather conditions or other difficulties may prevent the realisation of the full planting programme in this or any other year.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the acreage available for afforestation in County Wexford; and the approximate number of acress proposed to be planted in the coming year.

The area of land available for afforestation in County Wexford is approximately 870 acres, and it is proposed to plant about 600 acres this year.
