Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Chapelizod Garda Facilities.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the number of persons residing in Chapelizod police district has increased considerably recently; and, if so, if he will explain why the patrol car has been withdrawn since the number of Gardaí and the facilities available to them are grossly inadequate.

Mr. Boland

The patrol car was withdrawn only temporarily for a period of three weeks, when it was required for urgent work in another area. It was re-assigned to the Chapelizod area on 22nd of January.

In view of the increased necessity for the patrol car in this area, will the Minister ensure that no such temporary dislocation will occur again?

Mr. Boland

I could not say that. They may want every patrol car for a particular job, and I could not guarantee that it would be left where it might not be wanted at a particular time. The Deputy knows that there may be occasions where they would want every patrol car possible for a particular purpose or for a round-up.
