Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Recruiting

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of new recruits to the National Army to date, since the commencement of the present recruiting drive.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of persons who have (a) offered for service since the recent recruiting drive; (b) been accepted, and (c) been rejected on (i) medical and (ii) other grounds.

A Chinn Chomhairle, with your permission I propose to take Questions Nos. 49 and 50 together.

From the commencement of the present recruiting drive (16th January, 1952) up to and including 30th January, 1952, the relevant figures are as follows:—

Number accepted for service

755

Number rejected on medical grounds

215

Number rejected on other grounds

222

The number of recruits accepted represents a record for post emergency recruiting drives.
