Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disability Pensions for Defence Forces.

asked the Minister for Defence if he proposes to provide a disability pension for regular serving personnel in the Army and Navy who are discharged medically unfit from diseases such as tuberculosis contracted during service.

There is provision under the Army Pensions Acts for the grant of disability pensions to discharged personnel in respect of disease attributable to service during the emergency period, viz. from 3rd September, 1939, to 2nd September, 1946.

There is, however, no such provision in respect of the period 1st October, 1924, to the commencement of the emergency period, viz. 3rd September, 1939, or in respect of the period subsequent to the 3rd September, 1946.

I am giving consideration, however, to the possibility of amending the Army Pensions Acts in this respect.
