Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Officials' Pensions.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government if, when the claims of retired officials for increased pension allowances under the recent Civil Service arbitration award are being considered, he will consider the case of local government officials whose existing pensions are inadequate to meet the continuous rise in the cost of living.

I replied as follows on 8th November last to questions on this subject put down by Deputies Corish and Kyne:—

"Legislation to enable increases to be granted to pensioners of local authorities is not at present contemplated."

This is still the position.
