Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Import Costs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture why butter is being imported from New Zealand instead of Denmark and the cost per lb. of butter landed in Eire from these countries.

Mr. Walsh

Butter is at present being imported from New Zealand rather than from Denmark because the experience gained last year when butter from both of these countries was imported indicated that the New Zealand butter was more acceptable to the Irish taste. The landed cost of the butter imported from Denmark last year was about 3s. 3½d. per lb. and from New Zealand both last year and at present about 3s. 4½d. per lb.
