Vol. 129 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cromane Fishery Licences.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the fishery conservators in County Kerry propose to increase the draft net licence of Cromane and if, in view of the fact that the fishermen concerned operate on the open coast and have to contend with hardships not experienced inland, he will refuse to sanction the proposal.

Proposals have been made by several boards of fishery conservators, including the Kerry board, that licence duties for salmon draft nets should be increased in order to provide additional funds for the protection services. The power to increase such licence duties rests with me and I can assure the Deputy that all the relevant factors will be given full consideration before a decision is come to.
