Vol. 129 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Confined Examination for Clerical Officer.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state (1) the number of persons who sat for the confined examination for positions as clerical officer in his Department; (2) the number of persons who passed the examination; (3) the number of those who passed the examination who have been employed in a permanent capacity to date, and (4) if it is proposed to call for employment in a permanent capacity those who passed the examination but who have not so far been employed.

170 temporary clerks serving in employment exchanges competed at the confined examination for posts as clerical officer and 68 of them qualified.

Not less than ten posts as clerical officer were offered for competition and that number of qualified candidates have been appointed. Further appointments may be made but a decision as to the number must await the completion of an examination of the basis of staffing of employment exchanges which is at present being carried out. It is hoped to have this examination completed by the end of April.
