Vol. 129 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creation of New Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state how many new holdings of 30 statute acres or over were created by the Land Commission in each financial year from 1931 to date.

The precise information sought in the question is not readily available and it would involve considerable time and expense, which I feel would not be justified, to ascertain the particulars. On estates and holdings taken over by the Land Commission under the Land Acts, 1923-50, an area of 997,042 acres was allotted to 64,769 allottees up to 31st March, 1951. The 64,769 allotments comprise 39,881 enlargements of 480,406 acres and 24,888 new holdings and plots of 516,636 acres. A detailed classification of the allotments made each year since 1st April, 1937, is set out in the subsequent annual reports of the Land Commission.
